How to dress a bed

A bed should look inviting, comfortable and able to promise a good night's sleep! We have a few easy ways to style and dress any bed from your main bedroom to your guest bedroom and transform them to a luxury hotel room feel...

Three of the most important elements to keep in mind when styling and dressing a bed is: pillows, cushions and throws. These element are ideal to add texture, but should also compliment your colour scheme and the rest of your bedroom.

1. Comfort is key

Your bed should be comfortable and styling your bed should consist of adding layers of comfort. Investing in good quality bed linen is a great way to ensure quality sleep at night...and who doesn't love the feeling of pure cotton or quality satin or linen?!

2. Stick to a colour scheme

Sticking to a colour scheme will help all your bedroom elements work together and will create the idea that your bedroom is well planned and put together! It might be a clever idea to start with your bedding and add other elements like headboards, scatter cushions and throws that will compliment your bedding.

3. Choose your focal point

It's a good idea to decide what you want your focal point to be and to stick to it. A focal point in your bedroom could be anything from your bed to your headboard to your bedding. When selecting a headboard for your bedroom you need to keep four things in mind: the height of the headboard, the shape, the material and the colour. A very tall or very wide headboard creates a more luxurious feeling compared to standard sized headboards.

4. Pillows and scatters

When it comes to pillows and scatters there is no right or wrong way to dressing your bed...Your partner might vote for less scatters, where you might want more. Pillows on top of your bedding instead of under your bedding creates a luxurious look. And placing 2 pairs of scatters upright in front of your pillows will add to the luxurious feel of your bedroom.

5. Add texture

Texture through scatters, throws or quilts will add to the cozy and inviting feeling you want your bed to have. A clever way to add texture is by layering different styles from wool blankets to knitted scatters to faux fur.
