Here's how to mix Modern & Antique

Don't you just love hearing "where did you get this?", "I've been looking for something like this for ages" or "my grandma used to have one like this years ago"...well we do too! It's always so special when your furniture pieces tells a story. Read on if you're looking for tips on mixing modern and antique furniture pieces in your home!

1. All about balance

When you're mixing the old with the new it is important to find the perfect balance between the two. Spread your antique pieces all over the room, this way the different styles will be able to mix well and flow throughout the room's layout.

2. Colour is key

It can be quite difficult mixing different styles in your space and finding the perfect way to make them work together. A clever tip is using the same colour palette to unite furniture pieces.

3. Start small

If you love antiques but you're not too sure how to incorporate big antique furniture pieces into your current space, we suggest starting small. A few antique elements like small side tables or even a few decor objects will do the trick! This way you'll be able to experiment with the older pieces by placing them in different locations until you're happy and then you can move on to bigger pieces if you still want to incorporate more antiques.

4. Create a focal point

Think big and create a beautiful focal point with a large-scale statement piece like an old farm table or mirror. This works particularly well if you have a rather neutral space that needs a bit of drama! Antique pieces can also be painted or re-upholstered which can help them fit in with the rest of your furniture and decor pieces.

5. Focus on form & function

When it comes to mixing modern and antique furniture pieces, you should play with your lines as this will lead you to have a good combination of streamlined and curves. Form and function plays a role when selecting pieces as you want to focus on both aspects.
