Make a small room look bigger...

Make a small room look bigger...

We have some great ideas for when you want a room to appear bigger than it actually is (and yes these tips really work!) So read on if you want to know how to make a small room in your home appear bigger...

1. Declutter

Unnecessary clutter can immediately make a room feel smaller, so if your goal is to make your room appear bigger then your first step should be to declutter! You should pick a few of your favourite books, magazines and decor items and stick to those as this will ensure you don't over clutter your room. Keeping a few baskets for blankets or magazines will keep the clutter to a minimum.

2. Rearrange your furniture

Rearranging your furniture might just result in your room having more space than you initially thought. A different room layout may result in more floor space making it easier to navigate the space. Carefully consider all furniture pieces in your room - if you're not using a specific piece then it might be a better fit elsewhere.

3. Choose light colours for your space

This is probably one of the oldest tricks in the book, but really works! Lighter colours reflect light which makes a room feel much brighter and larger. Where darker colours makes a room feel smaller and more intimate. Try choosing neutrals and pastels for your walls, curtains even floors as this will make your room appear larger.

4. Be clever with your furniture pieces

If your space is limited try thinking outside the box and use your furniture pieces for more than one purpose. For example you can use an ottoman for seating as well as a side table. This way you will be saving a lot of floor space!

5. Add mirrors

Adding mirrors can help reflect light and make a room look and feel larger while also adding depth. Mirrors can also be a fun way to add some decorations to your smaller space.

6. Add a rug

Rugs can make it or break it when it comes to a smaller space. Your goal should be to select a rug large enough to cover a large part of your floor space. You should be able to place the front feet of the furniture on your rug (if you are placing your furniture on top of your rug). If your area rug is too small this will only make the room appear even smaller than it actually is!
